Treatment

This was our very first idea :
After having a group discussion, we have decided the genre our 2min film opening will be 'drama' and we have came to the conclusion our opening scene will revolve around 'De' a non fictional character, the first shot will be of De deep in thought in his home/apartment, non digestic music will be playing and he will be smoking.
a close up shot will zoom in on his eyes, this is to show the emotion, that hopefully we can capture which will hopefully set the correct atmosphere, shortly after, a car will pull up to the location where De lives, two candidates get out of the vehicle and move toward the draw down stair case leading to De's place, at this point there will be a switch between De and the mystery candidates making there way towards his front door, one of the mystery people will make there way up the stairs and the hand held camera will hopefully be effective in showing the rush and unsteadiness when hurrying up the staircase, there will from De's point a loud banging on his door and a sudden panic and unreasurance comes over him...

we have now come to the conclusion after another group decision that we are not going to use this idea but instead we are going to base the story around Derrick our main character who will be going to different locations and walking in different areas. we are then going to show him in the final scene running through somewhere and stumbling and as if he is being chaed but we will not show who or what is chasing him. the reason we have changed this idea is because we think our intial idea is too typical and is too expected and we want it to be more creative and more individual and so becaus eof this we have re-thought the whole film and have come to the conclusion that this iw the new storyline that we are goinf to follow.

Preliminary Task Evaluation

What did you learn about the cameras and editing software during the preliminary task?

When filming angle composition is very important is very important for example when we was shooting Derick opening a door we had to make sure we timed him coming through the door
accurately to prevent us needing to spend more time than necessary on editing, when in the editing suit we was able to adjust camera cuts however this was not easy as we didn't have enough film needed we will take this into consideration when preparing to film our final piece.

In the filming and editing of your project, what worked well and what could have been improved?

Throughout the whole process of filing we made many mistakes which were then recognised in the editing stage this is due to not having experience or knowledge of how to filming the correct ways however whilst editing we learnt a lot about how to improve our work for the future for example we learnt that we must always film more than we need so that editing can be done smoothly and so that we never have the problem of having to re film most bits.

Give a detailed, specific example of how you have used a shot/ reverse shot combination in your film

we used shot reverse shot, we was able to uses this when filming Vundu and Derick in conversation, this worked effectively although we must take into consideration crossing the line, as this may be a problem.

Give a detailed, specific example of how you achieved match cuts during the editing process

When filming our first prinimalery task we didn't manage to put apply match cuts however we plan to use match cuts in out main task.

When filmingHow did you make sure that you didn't break the 180 degree rule? Or if you broke it, what have you learnt from this?

we broke the 180 degree rule as we weren't very familiar with how easy it was to break the 180 rule. when we watched the film back in the editing process we noticed that we had broken the rule and so we re-filmed that specific bit. we have learnt how to prevent this from happening when we take on our main task and we have also
learnt how important the 180 degree rule is.
